A large number of people who love to smoke cigars prefer the Hoyo de Monterrey brand of cigars very much. The Hoyo de Monterrey brand of cigars can be found in the humidors of many of the cigar connoisseurs around as the brand is very popular in the market.
The Hoyo de Monterrey brand of cigars is distinguished by the special features in the way it is constructed. A dark wrapper which has a sheen on its surface is used to wrap the cigars. There are no rough patches which can be felt on the smooth surface and the construction appears perfect to the eye which can warm the heart of the smoker and make him fall in love with it. The Hoyo de Monterrey brand of cigars looks very classy, gives a taste of cedar and drawing the smoke is easy and smooth. The cigar has the smell of the earth before it is lit, reminding you of the place which gave birth to the art of smoking a cigar. You can hold the cigar firmly between your fingers while smoking it. You can draw the smoke easily and it gives a soft and creamy taste from the beginning to the end. The cigar burns at a constant rate and you can enjoy it highly.
The Hoyo de Monterrey brand of cigars was created by Jose Gener who was a master in the art of rolling cigars. He hailed from the Vuelta Abajo region in Cuba known all over the world for its premium tobaccos and he commanded a great deal of respect from the cigar making community. During the same period another expert at making cigars namely Estelo Padron started making cigars in the Honduras with same name. The two varieties have always been compared by the smokers and they feel that the variety made in the Honduras has more characteristics that remind you of Cuba than the actual variety of Hoyo de Monterrey made in Cuba does.
The Hoyo de Monterrey brand of cigars made in the Honduras is filled with the best tobacco available in the Honduras which actually comes from the plants grown from seeds brought from Cuba. The combination of the seeds from Cuba and the soil in the Honduras give the tobacco a flavour which is unique for different reasons. This brand of cigars always invites you to forget the effects of the sun, the earth and the water on you and enjoy an experience which is not to be missed. The Hoyo de Monterrey brand of cigars lets you experience the magical situation which the tobacco from the Honduras creates.
The Hoyo de Monterrey brand of cigars is regarded as having the best flavours compared to other varieties available to the customers. This characteristic has been proven by the popularity it has. The characteristics of the Hoyo de Monterrey brand of cigars have not been tampered with by the manufacturers for the fear that it will lose its popularity with the fans. The brand is so remarkable that a new smoker can smoke it to understand the nuances of cigar smoking and the brand can be appreciated at the same time by the smokers who are seasoned. This cigar can be used to initiate new smokers into the world of cigars.

Jose Gener had emigrated from Spain to land in Cuba in the year 1831 when he was thirteen years of age and started to work on a plantation situated in Vuelta Abajo which was owned by his uncle. After a period of twenty years, he founded his own factory located in Havana and started to make his cigars which were named La Escepcion. With the profits he made from this factory, he purchased a tobacco farm which was one of the best in the area of Vuelta Abajo and used the tobacco from this farm in his cigars. He registered the Hoyo de Monterrey brand of cigars after this.
The literal translation of the name Hoyo de Monterrey from Spanish to English means the hole of Monterrey which stands for the ground in the form of a bowl which was a favourite place for growing the premium brand of tobacco. The Hoyo de Monterrey brand of cigars became very popular especially with the British smokers and factory belonging to Jose Gener grew larger to become one of the biggest one in Cuba. The family business was taken over by Lutgarda Gener, Jose Gener’s daughter, after his death in Spain in 1900, who ran the business for another thirty years.
The Gener family was more interested in the production of sugar cane rather than tobacco and cigars. The family sold both the cigar brands of Hoyo de Monterrey and La Escepcion to the company called Palicio, Fernandez y Cia which was already producing the impressive brands like Belinda and Punch. The Chateux brand of cigars gave rise to the Davidoff brand of cigars at some time. During the period of 1940s, the Hoyo de Monterrey and the Chateaux brand of cigars started to be made for a distributor in Switzerland called A Durr. When one of the partners, Ramon Fernandez died, Fernando Palicio became the only owner of the company and by the year 1958 the cigar brands manufactured by him had captured 13% of the export market of Havana.
Fernando Palicio had to leave Cuba when the Cuban government took over the company and immigrated to Florida. He sold his cigar brands to the family of Villazons who went on making the Hoyo de Monterrey, Punch and Belinda brand of cigars in their factory located at Tampa in Florida from the tobacco grown in the Honduras for the market in America.
The production of the Hoyo de Monterrey brand of cigars went on in the Honduras and Cuba and is still recognised as a popular Cuban brand in the world market. The Double Corona, Epicure 2 and Le Hoyo varieties are treasured by the cigar connoisseurs of the world.
Habanos SA has always chosen the Hoyo de Monterrey brand of cigars for their limited edition variety since 2000 as it was very popular all over the world. The Particular variety of cigars which was chosen for a debut as Edicion Limitada during 2000 was withdrawn because it had reached the sellers before its debut and actually made its debut in the next year’s limited edition line up. This is the only brand which had to be selected for debut twice. The Petit Robusto variety had a new redesigned band and a different size that was added to the existing line of the Hoyo de Monterrey brand of cigars and was introduced to the market in 2004.
The Hoyo de Monterrey brand of cigars has two cigarillos in its family which are made by machines and are named Mini and Midi.
