El Rey del Mundo

In the Spanish language El Rey Del Mundo means “King of the World”. In the same way the Mundo brand of cigars is also a king among the cigars made in Cuba. It is said to be the most prestigious brand available in the world. The El Rey Del Mundo brand of cigars is a classic among all of the brands with an extremely pleasant blend of different flavours of tobaccos grown in the Honduras. It has the size of a double corona, great shape and a medium blend of tobacco which is very enchanting combined with fillers from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and the Honduras and binders and wrappers from Sumatra.
This brand of cigars is rich and spicy and rolled by hand by the producers of the Punch and Hoyo de Monterrey cigar brands. These fine cigars are made of binders from Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic and the Honduras and fillers from Nicaragua. The cigars remind you of the famous wrappers from Oscuro. The 91 rating given to the El Rey Mundo brand of cigars by the world renowned magazines on cigars is worth mentioning.
The El Rey Del Mundo brand of cigars is considered to be the best among all the brands known to the world. This brand has been around since the end of the 19th century. They were initially made by a German gentleman named Emilio Ohmstedt and can be divided into two distinct varieties of cigars. One of the varieties is produced by the company known as Habanos SA where other varieties of the El Rey Del Mundo brand of cigars are made also. The second variety of El Rey Mundo brand of cigars is made by a company known as Villazon who also makes the Don Candido brand of cigars. The El Rey Mundo brand of cigars remained popular with the people of Cuba though not many changes were made to the original brand.
As there came changes in the smoker’s tastes with the change of time, people started favouring brands which were lighter in flavour. Brands like Marlboro Lite and Miller Lite forced the companies to decide to manufacture lighter brands cigars in the Honduras which would be very attractive to the American smokers looking for something else than cigars made in Cuba. The El Rey Mundo brand of cigars always possessed a perfect quality since the day it was first made. You can find this traditional brand of cigars always in the humidors of serious smokers.

A rich German businessman by name of Emilio Ohmstedt, who was a fervent smoker of cigars, first created this brand of cigars in 1848.The cigars were initially rolled by hand by peasants in a small village in Cuba. The process of making cigars by rolling them manually has been maintained till this day, only it is done presently in factories where the humidity and fermentation is controlled by computers. This brand of cigars did very well in the market during the initial years after its launch but suffered a very big setback after Ohmstedt died. The setback was so great that the brand almost completely vanished from the market.
A prosperous Spanish businessman named Antonio Allones bought out the brand in 1882 and saved the El Mundo brand of cigars and its lovers from becoming extinct. It was after this that this brand started its rise to the place of prestige it enjoys in the world now. The Spanish businessman extended the business beyond the shores of Cuba and built smaller factories in the Honduras, Nicaragua and in Mexico even. The head quarters and the major factories of the company still operated from Cuba.
The El Del Mundo brand of cigars changed hands again in 1905. The new owner of the brand was known as Candida Vego Diaz who had also prospered in his business. He was already manufacturing some famous cigar brands namely Rafaelo Gonzales, Sancho Panza and Don Candito. To increase the prestige of the company he changed its name from “Diaz Hermanos y Cia” to “El Rey Mundo Cigar Company”. This move was taken very intelligently and seemed to pay off in the coming years when his profits increased three fold and his fame and prestige as a big cigar tycoon also increased in the industry. This was called the golden era of the El Rey Del Mundo brand of cigars. The smokers taste had changed by that time and they had started to prefer light cigars with a lot of aroma which the El Rey Del Mundo brand of cigars could definitely provide.
This brand of cigars was taken over by the government after the revolution in Cuba in 1960.During the revolution the production of this brand of cigars was stopped entirely because of the fighting going on between troops led by the Cuban dictator named General Juano Baptista and the revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro. The production of the cigars was restarted after the end of the revolution and new varieties like Granadas De Espana, Demi Toss and Choix Supreme were added to the existing ones. The production of the El Rey Del Mundo brand of cigars was carried on and it soon attained the prestige it has today. It has lost some of its popularity in the recent years because of the fact that the taste of cigar smokers around the world has again changed and they want cigars with strong flavours today.
As the taste of the cigar smokers swing from the strong to the mild and back to the strong again, the king of all cigars, the El Rey Del Mundo brand of cigars will definitely regain its lost popularity. As a serious cigar smoker everybody must try out the El Rey Mundo brand of cigars at least once to call themselves a real smoker of cigars.
The comparison made between the El Del Mundo brand of cigars and wine is very interesting. Like all kinds of wine the El Mundo brand of cigars become better with age. It is very normal to see the passion of collectors of old and rare cigars spend thousands of dollars on El Rey Mundo cigars which are twenty or more years old. The combination of an El Del Mundo cigar with a glass of good champagne beats everything when it comes to having them at a meeting held to discuss about business matters.
